This zone is located in the district of Sheffield. Similar settlement types with Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham have been separated into the Industrial Settlements and Planned Industrial Settlements zones. These settlements began as small rural villages that have greatly expanded from the mid 19th century onwards. The later developments around the historic core are often built in geometric patterns with green spaces at the centre of circular road layouts. The houses are generally semi detached or built in short rows. There are however quite diverse housing styles with areas of terraces and vernacular cottages.
