This zone is found in the districts of Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham and is generally on the edge of the principal urban centres. The housing was developed in the 19th century as middle class suburban developments away from the industrial and commercial city centres which were becoming increasingly densely developed. The suburbs consist of detached and semi detached houses, houses tend to be fairly well spaced and roads are often lined with mature trees.
